Nearly every day there is a murder and a scurry in our back yard.
A few days ago, my wife saw a squirrel with a black patch on its back. Because it is the time of year for drays to build their drays, I put it off as the squirrel having some nest building material flopped over itself.
This morning I saw movement at the base of our Rose of Sharon, where many times there is murder/scurry competition. The gray squirrel bounced away and what I thought was a crow was a completely black squirrel!
When it jumped onto the fence and paused, I thought it was the one with the black back my wife saw. It turned and ran along the top of the fence and reversed its direction before leaping into the trees. What I saw was a completely black critter.
I’m sure I never saw a black squirrel any time during my 90 years of observation, so I looked up black squirrel and found the squirrel image and a good story about them.
A continuing real need: Check A Kidney for Eli to learn more.

We have squirrels running in our yard of multiple colors. Most grey, some red with white tummies, and yes completely black ones and a few white ones that are not albino. They are fun to watch and our little dog Molly is quick to report any movement or invasion of the back yard.
